Andy Cole believes Manchester United are capable of attracting Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland this summer, but warned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his side need to finish the season strong.

Mbappe and Haaland are two of the most exciting youngsters on the planet and both are tipped to potentially be on the move this summer.

Premier League clubs appear to be in the strongest position financially to secure the signings of the world’s best amid the coronavirus pandemic and United will no doubt throw their hat in the ring to land the pair.

Solskjaer wanted to sign Haaland before he moved to Borussia Dortmund. He has since gone from strength to strength, banging in 29 goals in 27 appearances in all competitions this season.

United are believed to be one of six clubs the Norway international would consider joining this summer.

Cole thinks United should be able to land the pair if they enter the race, but only if they prove to them they will be comptetitive for major titles next season.

Asked if Mbappe and Haaland would be attracted by the proposition of joining United, Cole told Sky Sports: ‘Any club is attractive when you are those players, but ultimately it is what they are aiming for, as star players they are going to have options.

‘Is United an attractive enough option to those guys? They’ll have the answers. We all know about United’s history and what they have done over many, many years but it’s about the now.

‘You want to know your possibility of winning things next season and the season after that. If it does come to fruition, those guys will have decisions to make.

‘Top players want to win tomorrow, after a certain age you don’t want to wait [for trophies].

‘United of course want top players, but to entice them you have got to be winning and be there or there abouts every season.’
