Andy Cole issues Manchester United Jesse Lingard transfer advice

2 min read

Manchester United legend Andy Cole has advised the club to sell Jesse Lingard this summer following his impressive form on loan with West Ham.

The England international has enjoyed a resurgence in Gareth Southgate’s squad ahead of this summer’s European Championships and extended his impressive record with a brace against Leicester City on Sunday.

Lingard has now netted eight goals and contributed three assists in just nine matches for the Hammers, helping them in their surprise push for a top-four finish.

That has ignited a debate around what should happen with Lingard this summer and whether United should hand him a fresh opportunity at Old Trafford.

However, Cole believes the best approach for all parties would be for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to cash in at the end of the season – benefitting from his impressive form.

“The opportunity for him to go on loan to West Ham came at a fantastic time. He’s taken it with both hands,” he told TalkSport.

“Now Manchester United have a decision to make. Take him back or sell him in the summer for a little bit more money than was expected?

“I think if I was Manchester United, I would move him on. And if I was Jesse I would want to go and play games. Definitely.”

The 28-year-old was due to see his contract at United expire this summer but the club exercised a one-year extension on his deal in December.

However, he will enter the final 12 months of his contract this summer and could leave on a free transfer next year if a sale does not materialise in the next transfer window.
