Andre Silva gives direct response to Manchester United transfer rumours

3 min read

Eintracht Frankfurt striker Andre Silva admits he is aware of reported interest from Manchester United, amid recent links with the Old Trafford club.

Anthony Martial’s poor form and Edinson Cavani ‘s contract situation have seen Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side touted as a potential destination for the Portugal international in the summer transfer window, with reports claiming United are interested in signing the striker.

The 25-year-old has netted an impressive 20 goals in 23 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga side this season, with his stunning form earning him rave reviews.

Silva joined Frankfurt from AC Milan, originally on loan in 2019, before making the move permanent at the beginning of the current campaign, signing a three-year deal.

With ongoing links to the Premier League, and specifically Manchester United, Silva admits he has heard about the speculation, but does not want to be distracted.

“I’ve heard rumours, but that is it. Rumours are rumours”, Silva told Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, via Sport Witness.

“At the end of this season, it’s something that gives me more motivation to work, it’s a sign that what I have accomplished has borne fruit and the path has been good.”

When asked him how much is he worth in the current transfer market, Silva joked: “Around 105 million? I’m kidding. I think I heard 30 and something somewhere… when we sell our merchandise, we always increase the value a little bit.

“Things are as they are and, whatever happens around us, the most important thing is to look at me and what I can do.”

On the pitch, United dropped further points in the hunt to catch Manchester City at the top of the table, after their goalless draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The big talking point after the match was an incident during the first half where Solskjaer ‘s side thought they should have been given a spotkick for a handball in the box by Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, who contested a ball with Mason Greenwood.

But the appeal was dismissed by referee Stuart Attwell after the video assistant referee asked the official to consul the pitchside monitor.

Speaking after the game, Solskjaer was quick to express his disappointment at the decision, making it clear that he expected his side to be awarded the penalty.

Manchester United were denied a penalty in controversial fashion against Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his players were furious that Callum Hudson-Odoi wasn’t penalised for a handball, as they had to settle for a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge. The point leaves United 12 points behind leaders Man City, with Crystal Palace the next opponents.

“It was a penalty, 100% nailed on,” he said to the BBC. “If that’s a natural position for a hand to be in when the ball comes in then I must be blind.

“We wanted to win. Apart from the last quality or pass being not good enough, we had great pressing, desire [and] work-rate. There was a great save by David de Gea and we got the clean sheet.

“That’s what let us down, that quality on the ball. The first half was scrappy. Poor game really. But then we played some good stuff at times. When we settled we created a few chances but we didn’t have enough.”
