Amad reminds Man United fans of Javier Hernandez with first goal in AC Milan tie

2 min read

Manchester United fans were left delighted by Amad’s near-instant impact in the Reds’ game against AC Milan.

The teenager had only been on the pitch for five minutes after replacing Anthony Martial at half-time in the Europa League tie before producing a fine finish to score his first goal for United since completing his move to Old Trafford in January.

Amad ran onto Bruno Fernandes’ chipped pass and, with his back to goal, flicked a header over the advancing goalkeeper and into the net.

Fans were delighted to see the 18-year-old score his first goal for the club, and many pointed to the similarities with Javier Hernandez’s backward header against Stoke City in 2010.

Amad has made an impressive start to life at United since completing his move from Atalanta in January.

After beginning his United career in the club’s development squad, he was quickly promoted to the first-team, making his debut late on in the 4-0 Europa League win over Real Sociedad last month.

He was handed more game time in the second leg of that tie before being named as an unused substitute in last week’s draw with Crystal Palace.

Amad’s smartly-taken goal broke the deadlock in a tight first leg with AC Milan.

United struggled to get going in the first half of the encounter, with AC Milan having two goals disallowed for offside and handball respectively before Harry Maguire spurned a gilt-edged chance to put the Reds ahead before half-time.

The Reds were handed a further concern when Martial was replaced at half-time through injury, but Amad made an impressive impact after coming on as a substitute.

Amad’s goal came after under 45 minutes of senior football for the Reds.
